If you are a reader, though, you’re undoubtedly familiar with Victor Hugo’s 1831 novel, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, a work of historical fiction set in the Gothic Era of Paris. Tourists are still not allowed inside, but the cathedral is easy to marvel at from its courtyard. Fortunately, 400 Parisian firefighters were able to extinguish the flames, and restoration has been in progress since then. If you’re not a reader, the last time (and possibly the first time) you thought about the Cathedral of Notre-Dame in Paris may have been when it went up in flames three years ago.
